Fluorite, also known as fluorspar, is a colorful mineral made primarily of calcium fluoride (CaF2). It is well known for its wide range of colors, including purple, blue, green, yellow, and even colorless. Fluorite is famous for its fluorescent properties; under ultraviolet light, it can emit a vivid glow, an effect attributable to certain impurities in the crystal. This mineral has a glassy luster and a perfect octahedral cleavage, meaning it can break into pieces with octahedral shapes.
